A fantastic friend of Ability Bow has generated more than £2,000 for our gym, following an awesome abseil challenge scaling Church Langley Water Tower in Essex this May.
Diana Jones took part in the daring fundraiser - which involved a 110 feet 'free-fall' down the tower known as the Goblet for its shape - on behalf of one of her friends who currently attends our gym.
Over And Above
A member of the Rotary Club of Harlow Tye, Diana decided to embark on the club's annual abseiling weekend fundraising challenge; choosing to generate donations for Ability Bow this year after completing the same descent for another similar charity two years earlier, which inspired her once again to tackle it this time for our gym.
Receiving funds from various friends, shops and other local businesses, Diana took on the 'nightmare' mammoth task - which includes an 'endless' spiral iron staircase - to reach the top of the water tower, all alongside gigantic water pipes and three vertical iron ladders.
Describing the 'hair-raising scramble' to the top and the 'flash of terror' at the tower's edge, Diana says: "The funds raised made it more than worthwhile to go over and above for Ability Bow.
"Once at the top - after the usual puffing and panting trudge up the staircase - I was able to take in the view for a few moments, before climbing over the edge and balancing precariously (though safely roped) on a slender strut six inches long and three inches wide.
"But the sense of euphoria as I slid gently down the rope - waving to the crowd below - made the effort even more worthwhile!"
Victoria Kent, Ability Bow's Director and Founder, says: "Thanks very much indeed to Diana for being such a helpful supporter of Ability Bow and in enabling us to extend our service to more people with disabilities and long term health conditions.
"Every type of fundraising challenge for our service is an achievement and we're especially delighted to see the lengths our heights hero Diana is going to in raising crucial funds for our members.
"We're so grateful to Diana and our many other wonderful fundraisers, including the Pearlies, our magnificent marathon runners, avalanche survivor and member Graham Naylor and many, many more; you're all heroes!"
