Inspiring Individual: Meet Derek

For people living with multiple sclerosis (MS), symptoms and behaviours may often be misunderstood, while emotional changes including anxiety, depression and stress can rapidly appear.

This doesn’t stop our gym member of seven years Derek Farrar from making the most of life and maintaining a positive and confident attitude. We hear from Derek on how he has been able to utilise the empowering support from Ability Bow staff and other service users to help manage his condition and why he feels the gym is vital to his life.

Meet Stuart

Earlier this year, we said goodbye to our longstanding and outstanding Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Lorna Dorrell.

At the end of last month, we hired Stuart Wilson, who we're delighted to welcome as Lorna's replacement.

Events Update

We would like to thank you for supporting our 5km Big Fun Run which happens every year in October in Victoria Park. With 10 runners taking part we raised £2260 with part of that being payment for our wonderful course marshals, your volunteering on this event is so important as it translates directly into gym session for our members. This year was bigger and bolder than the last, and it wouldn't have been the same without your support.

Director’s Update

Moving towards our seasonal break this Christmas we are looking back on what has been a busy and productive year at Ability Bow. We’re reflecting that 12 months ago our organisation was still reeling from making necessary, tough decisions to cut our costs, and from losing a number of our experienced colleagues to redundancies.

Staff News

We want to let you know that our colleague and good friend Lorna will be leaving Ability Bow to take on an exciting new role at a national charity. She is torn to be leaving, but feels that she is being offered an incredible opportunity and after much soul searching she accepted the job and she starts there after Christmas.
