Ability Bow joined forces with the 5k Big Fun Run on Sunday 1st November 2015
Many signed up to support us taking part by running, jogging, walking or using a wheelchair. We had a great day in Victoria Park with 18 out of the 1000 or so participants representing Ability Bow.
Ability Bow also had many people in official volunteer roles and 15 or so more who came to support and cheer us on. We also had staff members Tony and family , Annemette , Toni and Chantelle taking part ; It was great seeing our staff team and gym members together taking on the challenge for their gym. We had a truly record breaking year raising over £3500 for our service thanks to you !!! Check out our photos here .
The run was a particularly huge feat for Jocelyn (pictured above on the right). Who was paralysed from the neck down In June 2008 due to a disease called Acute Disseminating Encephalomyelitis .Jocelyn joined us in January 2014 and has slowly begun making what could be a full recovery, with her muscles now “firing again”. She has a 90 per cent chance of full recovery, although it may take some years. She has sessions twice weekly at Ability Bow and aims to be able to stand up unaided. She says : “Gyms like Ability Bow should be mainstream and replicated everywhere! They are too rare. I’ve never looked back since joining Ability Bow.”
We owe a huge thank you to all our volunteers and the runners, our gym team and trustees. - Jocelyn alone raised £1150 inc Gift Aid !!
