Sunday April 24th saw this year’s Virgin London Marathon and what a great day it was. The weather was good for the runners but a bit chilly for the spectators! Ability Bow had a whole new spot thanks to our new pairing with The Lord Nelson on Manchester Rd. Victoria was at the start on Blackheath before joining us on the Isle of Dogs. She spotted quite a few of our runners and was able to give them encouragement and remind them that we would be there to cheer them on at mile 17 of the 26.2 miles.
There were a good few of us – staff, volunteers and some of our runner’s family and friends all came together at The Lord Nelson in our AB purple kit– thanks to all who came and helped with the usual banners, balloons and cheering!
Each AB runner commits to raising £1350, many, amazingly go over and above this .We saw about 20 of our 28 runners as they flew past us; we even managed to get some photos, (sometimes of just their back!!!)
Most of the people that run the marathon do it to raise money and awareness for lots of different charities and it really lifts your heart to see the efforts that they go to. It’s always a great occasion and spectacle. We extend a huge thank you to all our runners who trained in all weather for many months and raised a whopping £37,674 so far which goes directly towards running our special service. We couldn't run our service without dedicated fundraisers like our London Marathon team!
