Our receptionist Rochelle is tackling the fantastic 5k Big Fun Run in Victoria Park on Sunday 20 October 2019, and needs your help to raise a terrific £200 for our disability charity gym.
Rochelle will be walking the Bow-based fun run route as part of our Ability Bow team; all in honour of the ‘truly inspiring’ exercise and wellbeing steps she’s benefited from since being with us.
The Big Fun Run welcomes people to run, jog, or walk the course from just £17 to £20 (with entrants still able to sign up on the day), with our team aiming to raise up to £3,000 from the annual autumnal fundraiser.
Changed My Life
Taking part in her first big fundraising event for our health and wellbeing service - which is inner London’s only remaining disabilities and long-term health conditions gym - Rochelle says since being at Ability Bow, her understanding of disabilities and experience of exercise has been ‘incredibly useful’ to her.
Rochelle says: “I’m really excited to be taking part in and fundraising at the Big Fun Run next Sunday and it’s all because of how Ability Bow has really helped improve my knowledge and awareness of people with health conditions and disabilities.
“I’ve met gym members like Albie who also live with the condition and I’ve seen in person how they can still rebuild their lives positively.
“I also understand that someone could be in a wheelchair for many different reasons - through experiencing an accident to living with multiple sclerosis - and that at places like Ability Bow, recovery is possible.
“What’s amazing is there’s people here like Nathan who have experienced brain injuries and who are now walking again, who I never knew would have once been in a wheelchair; so it’s really developed my understanding of disability and how it’s seen by others.”
London-based Rochelle - whose many successes since being with us include currently transforming our merchandise selection and reception area with a new Ability Bow ‘shop’ offer - says she’s also improved her outlook to exercising since joining us.
Rochelle adds: “I’ve picked up so many brilliant tips and pieces of advice since being here from our exercise team, as I’ve been so impressed with everyone working here and I’m now starting to make gradual steps to working out, including improving my exercise technique.
“So, I’d really urge people to help the gym carry on its fantastic work and get involved and run, walk, or jog for us, sign up as a marshal or just come and cheer the team and I on next week; thank you so much!”
