What an extraordinary week in unprecedented times. This week, for the first time since we opened 14 years ago, we closed our gym and suspended face to face services. This is all of course to protect our gym members in the wake of corona virus (Covid-19) and to abide by the progressively changing guidelines from Public Health England.

We'll open up again as soon as possible and in line with advice but for now we have to keep our gym members and staff, especially those with living with disabilities and health issues, safe.

Early in the week we were all working from home and getting used to communicating online with apps and conference calls. We coordinated our calls, texts and letters to gym members to let them know that we may be temporarily closed, but that we would do whatever we could to carry on supporting them to keep moving and to stay in touch. We had team meetings by video and we managed to get everything we needed together, to work remotely (for most of us, for the first time ever). We didn't know exactly how we would do it, but we knew that we were committed to enabling our gym members to do as much physical activity as they can at home. We also agreed that we were concerned about the impact of self-isolation and loneliness for those who are most at risk from Covid-19, because many of our gym members who live with disabilities or complex health issues are chronically isolated to begin with.

So a few days later we have a plan, some simple exercise films, and lots of ideas and enthusiasm for generating video content for our gym members to exercise at home. We'll be posting our films on our website and YouTube channel soon, so watch this space. We will contact our active gym members regularly and coach them through their exercise programmes on video instead of face to face.

It may not be business as usual but we'll make sure that it's the next best thing. We want you, our gym members, to know that we are there for you. We won't leave you stranded!
